Legacy Backpack Buddies Events Approaching!
Each year, with the help of donors like you, Legacy Connection and BHHS Legacy Foundation join with other community organizations to bring essential need items to high-need children throughout Arizona so that can start the school year ready to learn.
From Monday, July 18, through Thursday, July 21, at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, the Back to School Clothing Drive will provide thousands of elementary schoolchildren from low-income families a backpack, new school clothes, belt, shoes, socks, undergarments, school supplies, hygiene items, books, and food worth more than $400. Also, throughout the month of August, the Assistance League of Phoenix will take their Delivering Dreams Bus to Title I schools to deliver essential need items on site to low-income children.
Meanwhile, on July 20, Topock 66 Foundation will present the Tri-State Legacy Backpack Buddies “Dress Kids for Success” event for Bullhead City, Mohave Valley, and Topock elementary school students along with a second event on August 10 for Laughlin, NV and Needles, CA elementary school students, as well as all area Head Start students. The events offer kids a new backpack filled with school supplies, personal hygiene items, and two new school-uniform shirts, shoes, socks, and undergarments.
Students who participate in these events are from families living at or below the poverty level. So for many of these kids, these are the first new clothes and shoes they’ve ever owned. You can help these children start school with confidence by making a donation to Legacy Connection.

Changes to Arizona Charitable Tax Credit
The Arizona tax credit for Qualifying Charitable Organizations has doubled the contribution limits for donations in 2016 going forward. Gov. Doug Ducey signed SB 1216, which increases the contribution limits for the Charitable Tax Credit, a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for donations to organizations that serve lower-income Arizonans and children with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
The new law doubles the tax credit for contributions from $200 for a single individual and $400 for a married couple filing jointly to $400 for an individual and $800 for a couple. A companion bill, SB 1217, was also passed, changing the filing deadline for the credits from January 1 to April 15 to encourage more taxpayers to make charitable donations.
Here’s how it works. When you donate to Legacy Connection (up to $800), the State of Arizona will reduce your tax due, dollar for dollar, by the amount you gave Legacy Connection. Plus, almost every gift made to Legacy Connection will be matched by BHHS Legacy Foundation and will be restricted for programs that serve our community. This means your donation—plus BHHS Legacy Foundation’s matching funds—will benefit the programs of Legacy Connection at no cost to you.
What’s more, this tax credit is available to donors in addition to the Arizona public and private school tax credits.
