Happy Holidays from BHHS Legacy Foundation

Happy Holidays from All of Us

On behalf of everyone at BHHS Legacy Foundation, we wish you a very happy holiday season. We thank you for helping us bring good health to the community and want to share some exciting news as we close out the year.

Welcome New Board Member Shannon Clancy!

BHHS Legacy Foundation and Legacy Connection are pleased to announce that Shannon Clancy has joined their joint board of directors. Clancy — the recently named CEO of St. Vincent de Paul Phoenix — leads the largest SVdP chapter in the world. The first woman to hold the position in SVdP Phoenix’s 76-year history, Clancy is a respected and beloved community leader.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Shannon Clancy to our board of directors,” said Gerald Wissink, CEO of BHHS Legacy
Foundation. “She will bring her knowledge, expertise, and servant’s heart to help us improve the lives and health of
people in our community.”

We recently partnered with Frontdoors Magazine to celebrate Clancy’s new role at SVdP. The special Holiday Issue also features several organizations that BHHS Legacy Foundation funds, including Ability360, ALS Association Arizona Chapter, Care 4 the Caregivers, Family Promise of Greater Phoenix, and the Kyah Rayne Foundation.

On the Offense Against Childhood Hunger

As excitement builds for Super Bowl LVII in February 2023, BHHS Legacy Foundation is proud to join a major initiative tackling youth food insecurity in Arizona. GENYOUth is working to equip schools in high-need communities with Grab-and-Go meals during breakfast and throughout the school day through its Mission 57: End Student Hungerprogram.

BHHS Legacy Foundation sponsored 10 meal carts for schools throughout Maricopa County and 2 in the Tri-State region. The donation will increase access to fresh, nutritious food for local children. “We want students to be able to focus on their education, rather than be disrupted by hunger,” said BHHS Legacy Foundation Senior Vice President Mary Thomson.

A total of 57 schools throughout Arizona will receive meal equipment packages, including breakfast carts, milk coolers and NFL FLAG-In-School kits. Together, the initiative will provide more than 8.5 million school meals to over 31,000 Arizona students each year!

In Arizona, 84 percent of students qualify for free/reduced-price school meals, but just 55 percent of students who qualify participate in school breakfast.

Grantee Spotlight: notMYkid

This year, BHHS Legacy Foundation awarded over $6.7 million to more than 120 organizations across Arizona to address the Foundation’s key focus areas. As part of its commitment to healthy communities, it has placed a special emphasis on one of our communities’ most valuable assets: the healthy development of youth.

The nonprofit notMykid was created to help families deal with teen substance abuse. Over the years, its programming has expanded and now includes prevention education, early intervention and counseling. BHHS Legacy Foundation values the holistic approach the organization offers and has provided funding to provide tailored services to families struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues in metropolitan Phoenix and the Tri-State region.

In Phoenix, the funding will help expand programming to the LatinX community, ensuring presentations and materials are available in English and Spanish. Bilingual staff members will be onsite in every program to communicate directly with Spanish-speaking parents, so they receive the same information and support as every other parent.

In the Tri-State community, Legacy’s funding will help create a team based out of the Bullhead City community to deliver programs and treatment for youth and families. notMYkid aims to become a long-term behavioral healthcare provider for the community, supported through diverse funding streams, including state and local grants and revenue generated through insurance providers.

Throughout Arizona, notMYkid provides children and families with truly lifesaving programs, support, resources, and education.
