A Growing Track Record of Service

BHHS Legacy Foundation was funded in 2001, following the sale of the assets of Baptist Hospitals and Health Systems, Inc.

To ensure that the net proceeds from this transaction would benefit Arizonans, especially those living in the areas previously served by the health system's facilities - the greater Phoenix and Tri-State regions - a nonprofit charitable conversion foundation was formed.

The system facilities sold included:

  • Phoenix Baptist Hospital and Medical Center, north central Phoenix
  • Arrowhead Community Hospital and Medical Center, Glendale
  • Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, Bullhead City
  • Chris Ridge Village Nursing Home, north central Phoenix
  • Silver Ridge Village Nursing Home, Bullhead City

To maintain this legacy of healthcare service to these communities, the Foundation focuses on supporting projects and programs that serve residents of these communities. Our School-Based Health Clinics Program has supported over 10,000 children's clinic visits since its expansion in 2001. Our Dental Health Services Program has supported over 10,500 children's dental visits over the same period.

In addition, our Legacy Backpack Buddies Project, working with our partners in the community, delivers backpacks filled with back-to-school supplies, hygiene and health items plus clothes, shoes, etc. to over 8,500 Greater Phoenix and Tri-State region children annually. To date, over $30 million has been allotted to highly effective nonprofit community projects, programs and organizations.
